January 30th Savanna

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe that it is the end of January.  Where has this month gone?  With all the delays and indoor recesses, it has been a bit of a challenge for everyone to be fully focused on learning.  I know that the children enjoyed being able to get outside on Thursday for recess and running off a bit of the pent up energy.

In recent weeks I have heard from many of the children that they have been “too busy” to do their homework.  I would like to ask you to take a couple of minutes each night to go over your child’s homework with them.  Check on what is to be done, and if needed help your child devise a plan on how they can accomplish getting it done. While I understand that they all have activities after school, your additional help with the time management at home is greatly appreciated.

As you know, the children will have a test on multiplication and division on Tuesday of next week.  This test will focus on the vocabulary the children have learned during this unit.  In addition, they will be asked to demonstrate their knowledge of multiplication and division fact families 0-12.  In addition they will demonstrate their ability to multiply two-digit by one-digit problems, and solve word problems.  This week we began our next Science Unit.  We will be focused on ecosystems, food chains and food webs in the coming weeks.  In Language Arts we continue to focus on writing skills, spelling and reading comprehension. Even with the weather challenges, we continue to move forward.

Below are some important upcoming events.  Please take moment to put them on your calendars.  Have a nice weekend.
