Final Savanna for 2014-2015

Dear Parents:

Thank you to everyone who came and supported Tuckahoe Town on Wednesday morning.  The children all were so excited to promote and sell their goods and services to everyone.  All the groups did a wonderful job of working together, staying on budget, and learning that you do have to keep track of all your expenses.

I would also like to thank everyone who helped with Field Day yesterday.  Even through the heat, the event was a HUGE success. The parent help and supervision was essential in making the day go as smoothly as it did.

As you know, next week is the last week of school.  We will be wrapping up several small projects and getting the room ready for summer.  We will also have our class picnic on Thursday from 12:30-2:30pm.  On Friday, I will be hosting a small end of year party for the children.  I will send an email out with more specific details early next week.

Below are important dates for the last week of school.

June 17 (Wednesday)- Early Release- 1:26 Dismissal
June 18 (Thursday)- Third Grade Picnic- 12:45-2:30 pm
June 19 (Friday)- Last Day of School/Early Release- 1:26 Dismissal

Dear Parents:

Here are a couple of reminders to share with you this week.

1.     As you know, we have begun work on Tuckahoe Town. This event will be held on Wednesday morning June 10th from 9:30-10:30am.  Currently, each group is working to produce enough items to sell, create a logo for their company, make advertisements for their company and keep track of the monies they have spent.  Overall, they are enjoying this project and look forward to being open for business on Wednesday morning.
2.    PE Field Day has been rescheduled for Thursday, June 11th.  The 3rd grade will be enjoying this activity from 11:00- 12:00.  We are in need of a couple of parent volunteers to help us as we move through all the stations.  If you are interesting in lending a hand, either let me know or go to the Tuckahoe main page and sign up on the Sign-Up Genius form.

May 22nd Savanna

Dear Parents:

Here are a couple of reminders to share with you this week.

1.     Our Reading SOL’s will be next Tuesday (5/26) and Wednesday (5/27) morning.  All of our tests are scheduled to begin at 9:15 am.  It will be important for your child to be on time for school on these testing days.  Please remember that the tests are not timed and the children can take as long as they need to complete them. In the past most of the children have been finished with a given test within an hour or so.  The most important aspect to get “ready” for these tests is for the children to be well rested.  Having a good night’s sleep and regular bedtimes will help immeasurably.  In addition to the sleep, making sure your child has a good breakfast will help as well.
2.    The Rising 4th Grade Orientation on June 1st.  This meeting will be held in the library at 7pm, and is an opportunity for you to hear from the 4th grade teachers about what to expect for next year.  I hope you will be able to make it.
3.    This year there will be a PE Field Day on Wednesday, June 3rd .  The 3rd grade will be enjoying this activity from 11:00- 12:00.  We are in need of a couple of parent volunteers to help us as we move through all the stations.  If you are interesting in lending a hand, please let me know.
4.    The Food Bus food recovery project has been a great success.  To date we have delivered more than 400 pounds of recovered food to AFAC.  I want to thank the volunteers who have helped with the delivery of the food to AFAC for us.  You have been an important part of this project.  There are a couple of slots still open between now and the end of the year.  If you would like to lend a hand please sign up using the following link:www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0B45ABAF2EA75-afac/
5.    On Monday, your child brought home information about this year’s St. Jude Math-A-Thon.  Should you wish to have your child participate in this fundraising event, please be sure to return the permission slip.  All donations, and completed Math packets are to be handed in on June 2nd.

Below are important dates through the end of the year.

May 26 (Tuesday) AND May 27 (Wednesday) – Reading SOL
June 1 (Monday) AND June 2 (Tuesday)- Math SOL

5-8-15 Savanna

Dear Parents:

There are a couple of housekeeping matters to share with you this week.

1.     Thank you all so much for the kind words of support as well as the various treats that have been shared with the teachers this week. Special thanks to Megan Szwez, Ila Bullinger, and Lisa Backer for covering the class so the third grade team could enjoy going out to lunch on Wednesday.  Also, thanks to Liz Fuchs for arranging the coverage.
2.    SOL’s will begin on May 26th. We will begin some review in class next week.  This is not intended to be stressful for the children, rather to help build their confidence about what they know, and calm some nerves about the types of questions they will be asked on the tests.
3.    As you look over the upcoming events, please note the Rising 4th Grade Orientation on June 1st.  This meeting will be held in the library at 7pm, and is an opportunity for you to hear from the 4th grade teachers about what to expect for next year.  I hope you will be able to make it.

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend.  Happy Mother’s Day!!

Dear Parents:

There are a couple of housekeeping matters to share with you this week.

1.     If your child needs to be dismissed from class early, please send a note in with them letting me know about the change.  Your note will help me have your child ready to go when you arrive at the office.  Your help with this request is most appreciated.
2.    SOL’s will begin on May 26th.  All of our tests are scheduled to begin at 9:15 am.  It will be important for your child to be on time for school on these testing days.  Please remember that the tests are not timed and the children can take as long as they need to complete them.
