May 1st Savanna

Dear Parents:

There are a couple of housekeeping matters to share with you this week.

1.     If your child needs to be dismissed from class early, please send a note in with them letting me know about the change.  Your note will help me have your child ready to go when you arrive at the office.  Your help with this request is most appreciated.
2.    SOL’s will begin on May 26th.  All of our tests are scheduled to begin at 9:15 am.  It will be important for your child to be on time for school on these testing days.  Please remember that the tests are not timed and the children can take as long as they need to complete them. In the past most of the children have been finished with a given test within an hour or so.  The most important aspect to get “ready” for these tests is for the children to be well rested.  Having a good night’s sleep and regular bedtimes will help immeasurably.  We will begin some review in class next week.  This is not intended to be stressful for the children, rather to help build their confidence about what they know, and calm some nerves about the types of questions they will be asked on the tests.
3.    As you look over the upcoming events, please note the Rising 4th Grade Orientation on June 1st.  This meeting will be held in the library at 7pm, and is an opportunity for you to hear from the 4th grade teachers about what to expect for next year.  I hope you will be able to make it.
4.    The AFAC/Food Bus food recovery program is exceeding all our expectations.  As of Wednesday of last week we had collected and delivered close to 200 pounds of food for AFAC.  If you wish to help with the delivery of food to AFAC, please use the Sign-Up Genius link to do so.  www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0B45ABAF2EA75-afac/

Today we also say goodbye to our student teacher Ms. Boak.  The children and I have enjoyed having us with her.  She has done a great job and we send her off with all best wishes for a successful teaching career.
