4-25 Savanna

Dear Parents:

Wow! What fun adventures everyone had over the break.  It was nice to hear about all the places the kids travelled, saw and did while we were gone.  We all agreed that the break was refreshing and well needed.  As we came back this week we discussed the coming weeks and everyone has done a pretty good job of settling back into back to our “regular” routine.

We kicked off our new math unit on geometry with a review of perimeter, area and volume, government, and landforms.  We were able to do a bit of writing about what we did over vacation, as well as practiced some typing and research skills.  During our Morning Meeting and Afternoon Wrap-Up we have talked about the need to remember the rights of others and how to practice good sportsmanship when playing various team sports.  We also discussed the necessity and value of having rules so no one gets hurt either physically or emotionally.

As you all know, the SOL’s will begin on May 19th.  The most important aspect to get “ready” for these tests is for the children to be well rested.  Having a good night’s sleep and regular bedtimes will help immeasurably.  In addition to sleep, there will be some general review of items we have covered throughout the year in the classroom as well.  We will be using several of the SOL sites that can be found through the Tuckahoe main page under “Kid Links” as well as some book review.   Should you wish to take a look at previous year test items, or the types of questions that will be asked, please visit any of the sites that are listed under the “SOL” heading.  As we have told the children, if they have been doing well in class and on regular tests throughout the year, they will do fine on the tests as well.

Hope all the sports games go well this weekend!
