Dear Parents:
We enjoyed a full week of fairly
uninterrupted learning this week. One
highlight was spending Tuesday afternoon outdoors learning about how forests
contain “seed banks.” Dr. Dudley Raynal ( Dashiell May’s grandfather) a retired
professor of Botany lent his expertise and explained to the entire third grade
about dormant plants in the ground.
After learning about seed banks, we were able to go out into the park
and collect samples of soil to see what might germinate. We also took the opportunity to plant out our
lettuce plants and peas in our AFAC garden.
It will be exciting to watch both our vegetable garden and seed banks as
they come to life. Explorers, simple
machines and fractions have been the other subjects we have immersed ourselves
in this week. As I plan to have these
units of study finished prior to Spring Break, be on the look out for test
dates in your child’s assignment notebook next week.
With the final quarter of the year upon
us, I would like to ask you to take a couple of minutes over the weekend to
review study habits, and homework with your child. While most of the class is doing a very good
job getting their work done and handed in on time, a gentle reminder to finish
the year strong would be most appreciated.
I
hope you enjoy the weekend.
